Interaction on the Role of Tourism Promoters – A Shared Journey

    Sunday, Mar 16 2025

Kathmandu – In a warm, welcoming setting, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) brought together a diverse group of tourism promoters from around the globe, under the gracious hospitality of Honorable Secretary Mr. Binod Prakash Singh. This gathering was more than an event – it was a celebration of Nepal’s vibrant tourism spirit. Representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Tourism Department), Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Nepal Association of Tour & Travel Agents (NATA), Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM), and many other key organizations came together, along with 13 international tourism promoters from the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malta, the United States, Macau, and Ireland, joining both in person and via Zoom.

This dynamic conversation was a true reflection of our collective passion for tourism. It was an opportunity to share our personal journeys and the innovative ways we work to present Nepal as a premier global destination-a place where majestic mountains, rich culture, and warm hospitality come together. The session allowed us to discuss real challenges such as limited resources, coordination gaps, visa hurdles, and the ever-changing demands of international travelers. We exchanged ideas on how to craft compelling narratives, embrace digital marketing, and leverage modern technologies to reach a broader audience.

    Key Moments from the Conversation

    • Celebrating Our Collective Contributions:

Mr. Binod Prakash Singh expressed his heartfelt gratitude to every tourism promoter for their tireless efforts in showcasing Nepal to the world. His message was clear: when we align our initiatives with clear, strategic guidelines (the Terms of Reference), every campaign becomes a powerful story of Nepal’s allure. • Facing Challenges and Finding Solutions:

In an open and honest dialogue, we discussed the everyday hurdles-whether it’s the struggle for more resources, the need for better coordination among various stakeholders, or the bureaucratic challenges that sometimes hinder our work. What shone through was our unwavering commitment to finding creative solutions, from innovative marketing strategies to streamlined government support, ensuring that Nepal remains a top destination for global travelers.

    • A Vision of Collaborative Growth: Senior officials, including Joint Secretary Indu Ghimire and NTB representatives GG Narayan Regmi and Deepak Raj Joshi (current CEO), reinforced their commitment to partnering closely with tourism promoters. They highlighted the transformative power of strong public-private partnerships, digital innovation, and international networking-all crucial for elevating Nepal’s tourism profile in today’s fast-paced world.

    • A Personal Perspective from Wales: As a tourism promoter from Wales, I had the privilege of sharing the activities I’ve spearheaded on behalf of NRNA. Sharing my experiences and the challenges we face added a personal, relatable dimension to our discussion. It reminded us that behind every campaign and marketing strategy lies a genuine passion to connect people with Nepal’s unique heritage and breathtaking landscapes.

From a tourism perspective, our discussion wasn’t just about numbers or strategies-it was about storytelling, community building, and inspiring travelers to explore Nepal’s hidden gems. In today’s competitive global tourism market, our role is to craft authentic experiences that resonate with diverse audiences, ensuring that every visitor leaves with a lasting memory of Nepal’s warmth and beauty.

In conclusion, the event was a heartfelt reminder of our shared vision: to overcome challenges together, nurture deeper collaborations, and unlock Nepal’s full tourism potential through creative branding, better infrastructure, and thoughtful policy support.

A sincere thank you to the ministry for this incredible opportunity, and a warm thank you to all the participants for contributing to such an inspiring conversation. Let’s keep the dialogue going and continue our journey towards a brighter, more connected tourism future for Nepali.
